Pregnancy is a very important phase in any woman’ life. Hence, it is very crucial to take of yourself while you are pregnant. Every habit and move needs to reviewed and watched carefully as a woman’s body goes through extreme changes in Pregnancy.

As everything changes in pregnancy, one needs to take extra care of what one chooses to eat. With few health tips, pregnant women can take care of themselves in the best possible way.

Let’s discuss the foods that pregnant woman should avoid by all means to maintain a healthy status in their pregnancy.

Alcohol:

Alcohol is Big No for all pregnant women. Experts strictly recommend women to stay away from alcohol even in a minimal amount during their pregnancy. If Alcohol is consumed by a pregnant woman in any form, it can cause developmental issues and serious health issue like Fetal Alcohol syndrome. In fact, women are suggested to strictly not consume alcohol even after the birth of the child. It is not healthy to have alcohol while breastfeeding.

Caffeine:

Pregnant women should also avoid caffeine like a plague. Though, few studies suggest permissible amounts of caffeine are fine. However, it is still advisable to not to consume caffeine during the pregnancy. Especially, caffeine should be avoided during the first trimester.

Unpasteurized Milk:

Though pregnant women drink milk as it is very healthy, remember to keep unpasteurized milk away. Unpasteurized milk has listeria present in it which is not good for pregnancy.

Raw or Undercooked eggs:

Pregnant women should be very careful while consuming eggs. Raw eggs and undercooked eggs contain salmonella bacteria which can be very unhealthy. These bacteria might lead to many health issues which eventually may impact baby’s growth. Hence, always make sure in whichever form you consume eggs, that the eggs are properly cooked.

Smoked seafood:

Smoked seafood is a delicacy that many relish. However, this is very dangerous for pregnant women to consume. The consequences of eating smoked or refrigerated seafood can be as severe as a miscarriage or stillbirth. Hence, it is best to avoid smoked seafood during the pregnancy.

Raw Sprouts:

Otherwise raw sprouts are very healthy. However, it is better to eat cooked sprouts during the pregnancy. Some other things you shouldn’t eat raw while you are pregnant are as follows:

  • Clover
  • Alfalfa
  • Mungbean
  • Radish
  • Broccoli
  • Sunflower
  • Soybean
  • Onion
  • Snow pea sprouts

All the above when eaten raw contain bacteria like listeria, salmonella and E.coli which are very harmful to mother and the baby’s health.

Raw meat and poultry:

If you are non-vegetarian, look very carefully while you eat all kinds of meat and poultry. Stay away from raw or undercooked meat. Raw meat contains a parasite called Toxoplasma which causes toxoplasmosis which may result in very extreme health hazards like still death or a miscarriage.

Uncooked meat contains salmonella bacteria which is again very harmful to pregnant women.

Pregnancy is a beautiful stage in any woman’s life. With few preventive measures one can enjoy this stage to the utmost level possible. Take care of yourself and your baby!
