On Monday, Deepika Padukone has tweeted about her upcoming film “Chhapaak” – “A story of trauma and triumph. And the unquashable human spirit”. Along with it, she shared a pic of the first day of her shoot. Here’s how she presented her first look from Chhapaak: “A character that will remain with me until the end of time… Malti. Shoot starts today! Chhapaak!”

Recently in Zee Cine Awards 2019, she officially announced about being a part of the film. The story of the film is based on the life and experiences of an acid attack survivor “ Laxmi Agarwal”, who survived an acid attack at the age of 15. Since the incident, she has been campaigning against acid assault and the sale of acid. She established an association called Stop Sale Acid to accomplish this objective. The US First Lady Michelle Obama bequeathed her with the 2014 International Women of Courage award.

After Holi, Deepika and Meghna Gulzar had shared pictures from the film’s content perusing session where Deepika shows her artistic pose with full prosthetic makeup that highlights her scars and burns on her character’s face. Even Laxmi is happy to see Deepika Padukone playing her role in the film. In a recent interview, she said “I am happy to see Deepika in the film. I have no right to judge her for the role in this film she is playing. Meghna Gulzar, the director of the film also describes the character Malti as “She is the hope and courage, She is Deepika Padukone as Malti” in Chhapaak. She also added “There is an uncanny similarity between the survivor and Deepika” in an event at Chennai. Vikrant Massey, previously seen in the film Lootera, has been cast opposite to Deepika Padukone as the partner of Malti. Recently, we have seen Vikrant Massey in Amazon Prime gangster drama “Mirzapur” and performed a renowned performance in Konkona Sen Sharma’s ‘A Death in the Gunj’.

The film is produced by Fox Star Studios and Co-produced by Deepika Padukone. After her wedding with Ranveer Singh, Chhapaak will be marked as Deepika Padukone’s return to the big screen. The film is scheduled to release on 10 January 2020.
